Psychiatric Care for Children & Adolescents

The whole young person — not a list of symptoms.

Children and adolescents experience mental health concerns within the context of rapid development, family relationships, school, peers, identity, and changing expectations. Our psychiatric care is developmentally informed and designed to understand the whole young person — not simply a list of symptoms.

01 — Evaluation

A developmentally informed approach

Every evaluation begins with understanding the whole young person, not just a list of symptoms. We consider current concerns alongside developmental history, temperament, family context, school functioning and learning, sleep, medical history, social relationships, identity, strengths, and prior treatment.

Because we are trained as physicians first, we consider how medical conditions, medications, and other physical factors may be contributing to your child’s experience.

Parents and caregivers are valued partners and often provide essential context. At the same time, we honor each young person’s age-appropriate privacy and keep their own perspective at the center of the process.

03 — Treatment

Medication, families, and collaboration

Medication management

When medication is indicated, treatment decisions are individualized and made collaboratively with the patient and family, considering evidence, developmental stage, prior treatment, benefits, side effects, medical factors, and the broader treatment plan.

Working with families

Parents and caregivers can help clarify symptoms, monitor treatment response, support routines, and reduce patterns that unintentionally maintain distress. Family involvement is tailored to age, developmental needs, clinical circumstances, and privacy considerations.

Collaboration

With appropriate consent, we may collaborate with therapists, pediatricians, primary care clinicians, schools, and other supports when doing so improves continuity and treatment planning.

04 — Transitions

Support through transitions

Treatment can address transitions in school, identity, relationships, executive functioning, family roles, and preparation for adult healthcare.
